Fellowship Program
Surgical Retina Fellowship:
- Course Duration : 3 years
- Eligibility Criteria : Qualified Postgraduates (MS/MD/DNB)
- Selection Process : 3 days of observation followed by interview

Course Location: Prime Retina Eye Care Centre, Himayathnagar
Course Description and Structure:
- The objective of this programme is to train ophthalmologists to be competent vitreoretina specialists – in the diagnosis and management of retinal diseases through clinical evaluation and research
- The programme provides comprehensive training in both medical retina and vitreo-retinal surgery
- Exposure of the candidate to the basic understanding of the various retinal disorders and to familiarize the candidate with the various examination techniques like slit lamp biomicroscopy, indirect ophthalmoscopy and indentation
- Fellows will participate in the evaluation and management of patients with medical retinal disorders
- The fellows will be competent in use of diagnostic modalities in retina like fundus fluorescein angiography, optical coherence tomography and ultrasonography
- They will gain extensive experience in laser photocoagulation of retina and use of various intravitreal drugs
- Fellows will obtain training in vitreo-retinal surgery. This will include pre-operative, intra-operative and post-operative considerations. They will get to observe all surgical procedures and to perform surgeries initially in a step wise manner and later the entire procedure
Structure:
- 0 – 6 months: observation and clinical evaluation of patients in out patient department with training in diagnostic modalities, opd procedures-lasers and intravitreal injections
- 6 – 12 months : OPD, performing opd procedures , observation of surgical procedures in operation theatre
- 12 – 36 months : OPD , performing Opd procedures , performing surgical procedures ( vitrectomies for various retinal diseases, scleral fixation of IOL s)in a step wise manner under supervision and later entire procedure under supervision
- Visit to Peripheral centres to see the retina opd s and do medical retina work
